Carving signs

Here are a few things I made with my new machine.

Foil Die

I worked in tool and die and never got to build my own die. So I decided to make one out of wood. This is a simple foil die that makes little cups out of a piece of tin foil, as you can see from the pictures.

Comparing Size

When taking pictures of these it is really hard to show the size of each one individually. So I took a picture with everything together for comparison.

Cabinet

My wife wanted a cabinet for our entry way but she couldn't find anything she liked at the store. So I came up with a design and made one myself.

Fishing Lure Trophy

This was made to be a traveling trophy for fishing, the person who catches the biggest fish gets to take the trophy home until the next time. It was made about 2 years ago.

Miscellaneous

These are just a few of the smaller things I have made. Including a piston and a few different versions of clamps.

Car Jack

Here is a small car jack I made about 10 years ago. I always thought jacks were cool little tools and could make a nice decorative piece, so here it is. This is also functional as you can see from the pictures.

Oversized Hand Plain

I have made many things over the years and with each project I want to do something different. With this one I wanted to make something much larger than it would ever be as a working object. I decided to make a large hand plain. This hand plain is about 5 times larger than an average size plain. It also works exactly like an actual one with moving parts and adjustments for the blade. Although it can not actually cut wood...

Airplane Props

These were actually just made to see what my new machine could do. I started off with a solid 4x4 piece of pine and had my new CNC router carve this from it. If you notice one of them has a larger hole carved from the center, this was made to put a clock in it. You also might be wondering what those things on the end are. They were used to hold the part down while the router was cutting. These took about 3 hours per side to cut, but it was all worth it in the end.

Spheres

This was one of my favorite projects because of the challenge. I wondered what it would take to create a wooden sphere, not a small like a baseball, but a large one. These three spheres have the diameters of 8", 12" and 18".  The 12" ball was made with a removable lid for storage. I am currently working on a contraption to make up to a 36" sphere!

Wooden Phone

Something else I love to do is take modern objects, take them appart, and create wooden replicas. For this project I took the inner workings of a modern phone and put them into a wooden one. This phone is fully functional and works great! You might ask "how do you answer or hang-up the phone?" Well there is a handle on the right side which can be rotated to answer/hang-up the phone.  I made this about five years ago, just for fun.

Clamps and Clocks

One of the first things I wanted to make were clamps. This is just one style, of many, that I have made. It is fully functional and my idea was not necessarily to use them to clamp things, but for them to hold clocks. I thought they looked different from anything else and had a great use. In these pictures I don't actually have the clock but I used a wooden nut to show how it would look.

The Humidor

This was my latest project. My son wanted to make something for his friend so we decided to make a one of a kind humidor. This project spanned over about 4 weeks before christmas. It was made from a plank of cherry, then lined with honduras mahogany to hold the humidity for the cigars. It was then stained and layered with polyurethane with about 6 coats.  We used the router to get the profile of the humidor and also used it to carve his initials on the inside.

Getting Out There

I have been wood working for about 20 years creating everything from cabinets to clocks; just about anything I could think of. I recently bought a CNC router to make things that weren't possible before, and also start a business. I wasn't quite sure how to get my products out there so I figured this would be a good way to get started. If you have any questions or would like to see about having something made, just let me know. Thanks and enjoy!
